Every two weeks I pick up newspapers from the verges of peoples houses all over Sorrento and neighbouring suburbs to help the Lions Club.
The Lions Club of Duncraig is just one of approximately 44,000 Lions Clubs located in some 205 countries and states around the world. There are currently about 1.4 million members of this truly global community service organisation.
Duncraig Lions is a diverse group of individuals who volunteer their time to assist the community by participating in a wide range of fund-raising and community-based activities. Members assist local organisations and individuals in need and also support local, national and international causes including the Save Sight Foundation, the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, the WA Lions Drug Awareness Foundation, Hearing Dogs, the Lions Cancer Institute and disaster relief.
Funds are raised by various activities such as recycling newspapers and aluminium cans, operating sausage sizzles at Bunnings and other locations and by holding quiz nights and raffles. Non fundraising activities include volunteering as marshals for events such as City to Surf and Relay for Life.
If you would like to help out and recycle your used newspapers please let me know and contact me by either calling or emailing me.
