The City of Stirling new bin collections start 29 June

The City of Stirling householders should now have received their Red Bin for the new collections that start on the 29th June 2015.

So for some or most homes there are 3 wheelie bins with different coloured lids but what do they mean?

Red Lid Bin (Collected once a week)

Use for:

  • Nappies
  • Broken crockery and glassware
  • polystyrene and foam
  • food scraps
  • cooking oil
  • Garden organics (if you don’t have a garden organics bin)
  • clothing and textiles
  • cereal bags
  • kitty litter
  • cling film
  • aluminium trays
  • empty motor oil containers
  • wine bladders

Don’t Use for:

  • Timber
  • Hot ashes
  • Hazardous waste
  • Syringes or medical waste containing blood products
  • Poison
  • Medication
  • Electrical items
  • Light globes
  • Soil / Sand / Rocks
  • Batteries household or car
  • Paint / gas bottles
  • Motor oil / filters
  • Chemicals
  • Building materials / asbestos.

Yellow Lid Bin (Collected fortnightly)

Use for:

  • Tins / cans / aerosols
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Cartons
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Rigid plastic containers
  • Untied plastic shopping bags

Don’t use for:

  • Cling film
  • Foam packaging
  • Nappies
  • Fabric or clothing
  • Food scraps
  • Car parts or gas bottles

Green Lid Bins (Collected fortnightly)

Use for:

  • Lawn clippings
  • Prunings and cuttings
  • Leaves and flowers
  • Small branches

Don’t Use for:

  • Plastic bags
  • Household garbage
  • Painted or treated timber
  • Dirt soil or sand
  • Plant pots
  • Stones or rocks
  • Large logs or stumps
  • Garden hose
  • Garden tools

Properties that did not automatically receive a garden organics bin (green lid bin), can opt in by visiting or calling the City on 9205 8555.

To make it easier for residents to dispose of household junk at a time convenient to them, the City of Stirling has also replaced household verge collections with a range of on-demand collection services.

Residents can access each of the following services once a year:

  • 1  x skip bin (three cubic metres)
  • 1 x E-Waste collection
  • 1 x white goods collection
  • 1 x mattress collection
